A message from Your School Nurse
IT’S FLU SEASON!
PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY TO PROTECT YOUR CHILD AND OTHERS!!
Winter is here and so are winter colds and other illnesses. You don’t want your child to miss school; but neither do you want to send a sick child to school to endanger him/her or others as well. When should your child stay home?
Here are a few guidelines we ask that you follow:
Fever is an important symptom; when it occurs along with a sore throat, cough, nausea, or a rash, your child may be carrying something very contagious. PLEASE keep your child home during the course of a fever and for an additional 24 hours after the fever has passed.
Diarrhea and Vomiting, if your child has repeated episodes of diarrhea and/or vomiting accompanied by fever, rash, general weakness, consult a doctor and keep your child out of school until the illness passes for at least 24 hours.
A bad cough or cold symptoms can indicate a severe cold, bronchitis, flu, or even pneumonia. If your child develops these symptoms and worsens, consult a doctor and keep your child out of school until the illness passes for at least 24 hours.
Strep throat is a highly contagious condition caused by a bacterial infection. Symptoms may include a sore throat, high fever, headache, and/or nausea. A child with strep throat should be kept home and treated with antibiotics, as prescribed by a doctor for 24 hours before returning to school.
REMIND YOUR CHILD TO WASH THEIR HANDS AND COVER THEIR COUGH AND SNEEZES WITH THE BEND OF THEIR ARM/INNER ELBOW TO PREVENT FROM SPREADING GERMS!
Please contact the School Nurse for any questions/concerns.
